Rob - ThreePeaks.® / Published 20.03.25
For this edition of 3064, we took our mission to the Swiss Alps, journeying from Basel into the heart of the Swiss mountains to push ThreePeaks gear through ice, snow, and altitude.
From Nendaz to the Matterhorn, by winding roads, mountain trains and remote trails, we navigated the extremes on an epic road trip. Here's what we discovered along the way.

BASEL TO ZERMATT
PRODUCT TESTING ROAD TRIP
LOCATIONS: Interlaken // Nendaz // Matterhorn // La Monta Evolène // Zermatt
FEATURING: Travel / Hybrid 30L // Kit Bag 38L // Crossbody Sling 4L
We embarked mid February, deep into winter in the Swiss Alps. Our goal was to push our latest prototypes to their limits - testing them across rugged mountain terrain, icy trails, and unpredictable alpine weather.
Switzerland delivers extremes. One moment, clear skies over deep valleys; the next, heavy snowfall at higher elevations. The conditions were relentless, exactly what we needed to put the Travel / Hybrid 30L, Kitbag 38L, and Sling 4L through their paces. From Interlaken to Zermatt, every mile was a test of durability, versatility, and design.

Interlaken // The First Stop
Wow Factor: 8/10
After touching down in Basel, we hit the road towards the mountains. 174km later, as daylight faded, we pulled into Carpark, 3806 Bönigen—our first stop in Switzerland.
Interlaken greeted us with still waters and fading light over Lake Brienz, a dramatic first impression. The lake’s deep blues reflected the last of the day, framed by towering peaks. A quiet moment before the journey ahead.
From here, we pushed on to Nendaz, our base for the trip. But this first stop set the tone—Switzerland was going to deliver.

Nendaz // A Midnight Ascent
Wow Factor: 8/10
The journey from Basel to Nendaz stretched to 300km, broken up by stops along the way. By the time we reached the mountain roads, it was midnight, and the landscape had disappeared into total darkness.
The final stretch was an experience in itself. Winding, unlit roads twisted up the mountain, at times precarious, demanding patience and precision. At one point, we had to drive onto a train, letting it carry us through the mountains as we neared our destination—an unexpected shift in the journey.
Finally, we reached our Airbnb in the hills, but we had no idea what surrounded us. The next morning, as the sun came up, the reveal was worth it—a backdrop of endless trees and snow-covered peaks. A hidden world we had unknowingly driven into the night before.

La Monta Evolène // Day 2 – Into the Valley
Wow Factor: 9/10
Leaving Nendaz behind, we wound our way down the mountain roads towards La Monta Evolène—54km from base. The drive alone was an experience, carving through alpine scenery as the valley opened up ahead.
Finding a place to park wasn’t without drama. After stopping, our car started sliding on the icy ground, forcing a quick repark. A reminder that out here, conditions can shift in an instant.
With the gear loaded up, we set off on foot. The valley was nothing short of spectacular—vast, untouched, and drone-friendly. Perfect for capturing content and putting the Travel / Hybrid 30L, Kitbag 38L, and Sling 4L through real-world testing.
Among the best spots? The suspension bridge. A dramatic setting, surrounded by sheer drops and endless mountain backdrops. Exactly the kind of place these products were made for.

Zermatt - Day 3
Wow Factor: 9/10
We left Nendaz early, covering 90km to reach Zermatt, a place unlike anywhere we’d been before—like something straight out of a film. No cars, just winding streets, alpine charm, and the towering peaks above. We walked through town, trying to take it all in before boarding the next train.

Klein Matterhorn // Final Destination
Wow Factor 10/10
After two mountain trains and a stop in Zermatt, we finally reached Klein Matterhorn—the highest cable car station in Europe. From here, we set off on foot, navigating trails along the mountainside with unreal views of the Matterhorn.
Every turn revealed something new—vast snowfields, sheer drops, and endless alpine peaks. The scale of it all was impossible to capture fully, but we did our best—filming some of the most epic footage of the trip. A place that truly delivers on every level.

THE FINAL WORD
SWISS ALPS
After three days, 840km, and more than 5,000 images captured, we wrapped up an unforgettable trip through the Alps. The high points? Pushing the new gear in real-world conditions, capturing insane footage, and standing at the foot of the Matterhorn. The low points? Icy roads, a sliding car, and navigating unlit mountain passes at midnight. But that’s all part of it—the challenge makes the journey.
On Monday, we made the final drive back to Basel, leaving the mountains behind. The Alps delivered, and the gear was put to the test. Now, it’s time to bring it all together.
Thank you for being part of the journey.
